Brief Description
This project was developed by Florida Peer Network, Inc. through funding by the 2007 Campaign for Mental Health Recovery state implementation awards and was completed in December 2008.
Results
The Florida Peer Network developed a comprehensive strategy to reach out to college students in Florida to educate them about mental health problems, the negative impact of stigma, and the importance of support from peers and friends in the recovery process.
The Network assembled art and photography exhibits featuring artwork from mental health consumers. This activity permitted young adult participants to share their personal experiences of living with mental illness as a way of educating the public and addressing the social exclusion that can exist.
The Network also developed three brief videos which addressed the topic of mental illness and the difference friends make in the recovery process. The videos include personal interviews with young adults, the winning photo essay submission, and a compilation of interviews with eight artists who live with mental illness.
